Cubovo, design by Bruno Munari for Porro

The structure of the Cubovo is made out of medium density board and is available only in white color. The top and internal shelves are in tempered transparent glass. It can be used as a trolley in the dining room or in the bedroom as a capacious besides tables, thanks to its compact form with 4 folding openings.

Pieces like Cubovo are a reminder of Porro's long history as a furniture manufacturer and trend-setter. Originally designed by Bruno Munari for Porro in 1962, this small storage unit is now available in the new 2008 edition.

Bruno Munari is himself a legendary figure in the history of design. He defined what it meant to be a designer in the 20th Century. His long career spanned into cinematography, architecture and essay writing. He first emerged on the artistic scene thanks to his involvement with the Italian Futurists in the 30s. Many link these early influences to the special, surreal lightness that characterizes much of his work. Yet, Munari is much more than just a young Futurist. He moved into graphic design and advertising in the 40s and 50s, founding the Movimento Arte Concreta (MAC). The latter group was fundamental in promoting the merging of art and industrial production. He himself was a pioneer in merging different styles and techniques. To this day his work in photography and graphic design remains greatly influential.

The Cubovo is, in more than one way, an exemplary product of Munari's imagination. It is also a great collectible from the 60s. In fact, for anyone interested in the agelessly fashionable style of that period, this piece is a must.

While this piece is clearly desirable for its appearance, it is worth noting that it is also very versatile and functional. Thanks to the wheels it can be used as a kitchen trolley or as a bedstand. Either way, the four doors and internal shelves make it a useful storage unit.
